The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community released early planning details in November 2025 for a large-scale development that could relocate and replace the current Casino Arizona property. The proposal centers on the “Dobson Site,” a vacant gravel lot near the northeast interchange of Loop 101 and Loop 202 in Mesa.
The project remains in the early stages, with tribal officials beginning outreach to developers as part of a long-term redevelopment strategy.
Dobson Site Targeted for Mixed-Use Casino Project
According to a Request for Interest (RFI) issued by the tribe in November, the community is exploring a mixed-use commercial and entertainment project along the Salt River corridor. Preliminary plans split the site into two main zones.
The east side of Dobson Road is being considered for a new casino facility, while the west side would be reserved for additional commercial development. The proposal also includes potential infrastructure upgrades, including an extension of Dobson Road across the Salt River. That expansion would require a new bridge and adjustments to surrounding road access.
Officials have not released design concepts, noting that the final layout will depend on proposals submitted by development partners.
Current Casino Arizona Could Be Replaced
If the project moves forward, it would replace the existing Casino Arizona location, which has operated for roughly 25 years. The current property is one of the busiest gaming venues in Arizona and employs more than 1,200 workers.
Casino Arizona currently features a large bingo hall and the CAZ Sports Bar sportsbook, which offers in-person wagering windows and self-service kiosks. Any new facility would be expected to continue offering gaming and Arizona sports betting while expanding entertainment and guest amenities.
Tribal leaders have indicated the new site could support a larger workforce and broader commercial footprint than the current property.
Project Timeline and Development Priorities
The RFI process began with site walkthroughs for interested developers in late November 2025. A formal Request for Proposals is not expected for at least five months, placing the next phase of the project in mid-2026.
The tribe has outlined several priorities for the project, including job creation for tribal members, multi-use development, infrastructure improvements, and incorporation of tribal heritage and cultural elements. Officials have stated that additional details will be released once development concepts are submitted and reviewed.
