The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has launched a new statewide peer support initiative aimed at expanding gambling recovery services. On January 12, the agency’s Division of Problem Gambling awarded a contract to Phoenix-based Dezerve Counseling LLC to develop and operate the program.
The state-funded program is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026 and will focus on peer-based recovery support for individuals affected by gambling-related harm, including those using casino gaming and Arizona online sports betting sites.
Peer Support Program Set to Launch in Spring 2026
Under the new program, participants will be matched with peer support and recovery specialists who have personal experience with problem gambling or have supported a family member through recovery. These specialists will provide non-clinical support alongside existing treatment options.
The program will be available statewide and offered at no cost. Services will be accessible through in-person meetings, virtual sessions, and phone-based support. Eligibility will be open to individuals at any stage of recovery, including those seeking help for the first time and those already receiving professional care.
The ADG has begun recruiting and training peer specialists in preparation for the program’s launch next year.
Self-Exclusion Tools Remain Available
While the peer support program is being developed, Arizona continues to offer self-exclusion tools for individuals who want to restrict their access to gambling activity.
The state currently maintains two self-exclusion options. The Casino Self-Exclusion List blocks access to tribal casinos statewide. The Event Wagering Self-Exclusion List applies to online sports betting platforms and fantasy sports contests.
Participants can choose exclusion periods of one, five, or 10 years. Enrollment requires submitting paperwork by mail or completing the process in person at the ADG office or a participating casino. Online enrollment is not currently offered.
Arizona residents seeking immediate assistance can also access 24-hour confidential support by calling 1-800-NEXT-STEP or texting NEXTSTEP to 53342.
