Phoenix Raceway still plans to jump into the retail Arizona sportsbook game. It’s just a matter of when.

“A physical sportsbook at Phoenix Raceway has been in the plans since Day 1, but we don’t have a timetable for its construction,” a track representative told BetArizona.com Thursday in an email.

When it is finally built, the Phoenix Raceway facility will join the FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona at Footprint Center, Caesars Sportsbook at Chase Field, and the under construction BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium and DraftKings facility at TPC Scottsdale.

Those five retail locations are thanks to professional sports franchises possessing Arizona sports betting apps licenses.

No tracks on the NASCAR circuit have on-site retail sportsbooks at the moment. Other retail sportsbooks are likely to open in the future at Bristol Speedway in Tennessee and Martinsville Raceway in Virginia — two states that have mobile sports betting in place.

Kansas Speedway, which has a Hollywood Casino (owned by Penn National Gaming, which also owns Barstool Sportsbook), is planning on opening a retail sportsbook once the state’s market goes live later this year.

Phoenix Raceway Hosts NASCAR Championship in November

Phoenix Raceway is scheduled to host the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race Nov. 6. Penn National Gaming partnered with Phoenix Raceway in August 2021, becoming one of eight operators to receive a professional sports franchise sports betting license.

When Penn National does open a retail betting location at the raceway, it will have a lot of competition.

In late June, Caesars Sportsbook officially opened its permanent retail facility at Chase Field. The two-story, 22,300-square-foot space includes forest-green tiled walls and a host of food and drink options from world-renowned chef, Guy Fieri, who operates his Guy Fieri’s DTPHX Kitchen + Bar concept out of the location.

The FanDuel Sportsbook at Footprint Center opened last September, and has served as a downtown hub for events like March Madness and Phoenix Suns playoff games.

BetMGM unveiled renderings of its planned sportsbook at State Farm Stadium in January. The facility is scheduled to open in time for the start of this NFL season and will sure to be packed next February with the Super Bowl in Arizona.

The DraftKings Sportsbook at the TPC Scottsdale is scheduled to open in 2023 and will include 390 seats, along with 3,400 square feet of video walls and screens and a patio complete with video screens, VIP cabanas and fire pits.
