Next Phoenix Suns Head Coach Odds: Who Replaces Frank Vogel?

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

  • 👀The Phoenix Suns were just swept in the first round of the NBA playoffs, ending the Frank Vogel era.
  • 📈Below, our experts revealed their exclusive odds to be the next Suns head coach.
  • 🏀Mike Budenholzer was the favorite and landed the job, though Lindsey Harding was in the running in Phoenix.

After another bitter postseason flop, many around the Phoenix Suns’ camp expected team owner Mat Ishbia to move on from first-year head coach Frank Vogel, who led the franchise to a 49-33 record this year but couldn’t get the franchise a single win in the playoffs.

Despite the "Big 3" of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, Phoenix suffered a four-game sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves, to the dismay of many at Arizona sportsbooks

Vogel was officially out in Phoenix on May 9. Luckily, BetArizona.com weeks ago went ahead and drew up some hypothetical odds on who could be the next man up on the bench for the Suns, correctly identifying Mike Budenholzer as the new man in Phoenix.

Below were our latest odds before the Budenholzer hire was announced.

Mike Budenholzer Was Early Favorite

Former Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks head coach (and Holbrook native) Mike Budenholzer (+200) was always the top candidate to replace Vogel in Phoenix, as the 2021 NBA title winning head coach was surprisingly on the market after a memorable run with Giannis Antetokounmpo and company. The two-time NBA Coach of the Year will now be expected to help Durant and Booker deliver a title.

While it was hard to see the Los Angeles Clippers firing Tyronn Lue, it was worth noting that the former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach has drawn heavy interest from Ishbia and the Suns’ leadership team, with Adrian Wojnarowski saying that the Suns owner covets Lue’s winning ways before the team decided on Budenholzer.

We also threw in reigning G League Coach of the Year Lindsey Harding (+800), who led the Stockton Kings to the best record in the league’s Western Conference (24-10), and ESPN personality and former NBA veteran guard JJ Redick (+900), who now is a candidate for the Lakers job because of his relationship with LeBron James.

Adelman, Nash Were Longshots to be Next Suns Head Coach

Rounding out our list were a host of longshots, in Denver Nuggets assistant coach David Adelman (who is the son of former NBA head coach Rick Adelman), while Jay Larranaga of the LA Clippers and Chris Quinn of the Miami Heat were next up, at +1250 and +1900, respectively.  Throw in former Suns legend Steve Nash at +3900 and you had the full rundown on the candidates that could have been the next head coach in Phoenix.
