Online Romance: Arizona’s Favorite Virtual Dating Apps

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

As America advances its way into more and more of an electronic-first country, each of our social obligations is increasingly moved from a real-world location onto the internet, with dating being at the forefront of that generational shift.

Each year, countless Americans meet their significant other on an online dating site, which means that the days of coming across your future spouse at a bar or other social space are increasingly happening less and less by the day.

With May 14 being Online Romance Day, BetArizona.com took a beat from Arizona sportsbooks to see what states had the strongest interest in online dating. Using Google Trends, we created a list of the top 10 states, based on search interest score of the term “online dating,” during a search period between April 25, 2024 - May 2, 2024. Then, we found the top 5 dating apps for Arizona.

Where Arizona Ranks Nationally

In Arizona, it seems like finding your spouse online has become even more of the norm than in other areas, as the Grand Canyon State managed to notch the eighth highest search interest score when it came to topics surrounding online dating.

Overall, Arizona’s search interest score of 81 ranked behind No. 7 Vermont (82 search interest score) and ahead of No. 9 California (80 search interest score), while Alaska rounded out the national top 10 with a score of 79.

Nationally, the leaders in online dating search interest were Oregon (100 search interest score), Wyoming (95 search interest score) and North Dakota (89 search interest score), while Mississippi (88 search interest score) and Rhode Island (84 search interest score) rounded out the top five nationally, with South Dakota being the only other state on the list, with a score of 83.

When it came to Arizonans' favorite dating apps, online app Bumble managed to beat out Tinder for the top spot, with the former grabbing a search interest score of 20 to the latter’s 13, while Hinge was third with a score of nine.
